There have been:
We have collated and summarised all of the responses so far into a draft Statement of Community Involvement, which will be a key document submitted with the planning application. This will summarise all of the key concerns and questions raised by respondents, and provide responses from London Square. We have also tried to answer any individual questions raised in emails, over the phone, or in meetings. Please let us know if you think there is a question outstanding and we will do our best to answer as soon as we can.
We understand that a significant number of local residents are opposed to the principle of developing the Lea Bridge Station sites. Those views will be recorded in the SCI, and the reasons for objections have been considered carefully and responded to in it.
However, the reaction to the proposals has been mixed, with a significant number of respondents welcoming the proposals. The engagement process has demonstrated that there is greater support for the proposals from people who have not previously engaged with the proposals, as well as from younger people.
We have also received a lot of really useful early feedback about the issues in the community that need tackling, and how the proposed community hub could help address these. We will be doing further, more detailed, engagement in the Autumn to develop our early ideas into a solid plan for a community space that complements and contributes to the community.
The decision to develop the sites, the ambitions for development, and the development brief was formulated by Waltham Forest Council back in 2016-18, during a period of extensive consultation. The Council believes that the Lea Bridge Station sites are a sustainable location to deliver high density housing to help address the acute housing crisis in the borough.
This week we will be sharing our developed proposals for the buildings and landscaping, which we hope to submit as a planning application soon. We welcome your thoughts and questions about these developed proposals.
Following the submission of the planning application there will be several months of further development and consideration, including a public statutory consultation period in which you can make your views known to the Council’s Planning Department.
